Bachelor of Science graduate with a Major in Ecology by the University of Manitoba with a Masters Degree in Applied Ecology by the Faculty of Science, University of Porto. Presently a PhD student granted by the FCT entitled “Traditional and modern ecological knowledge in the buffering of land-use changes and in the sustainable conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services”. The purpose of this study is to assess, from both social and ecological modelling approaches, the motivations, processes and impacts of the loss of traditional knowledge and its replacement by modern agricultural practice on the conservation of biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services in marginal mountain agricultural landscapes. This research will provide valuable information for defining rules towards future agro-environmental schemes. |
